We had a wonderful first week of school together in class 2-1! The second graders are working hard on getting the rules and routines down. I hope that the students (and parents) are not feeling overwhelmed, especially as we begin homework. At this point in the year, homework consists of 10-15 minutes of reading from the take-home book in the reading folder and a math worksheet that should not take more than 10-15 minutes to complete. The take-home book in the reading folder should be a "just-right" book that students can read mostly independently. If not, please let me know or feel free to read the book to your child the first time. Remember to sign the reading log each night and send the folder and log back to school daily. The book may be kept at home for as many nights as you need to feel comfortable with the book. When the book is finished, please sign the log, write "done," and return the reading folder, book and log to school. Homework may be returned daily after it is completed or the entire packet may be turned in on Friday. The homework packet is designed to help make busy households a little bit easier. Please let me know if you have any questions regarding the homework packet. Phew! I know this is a lot of information, but once the routine is established, it will be smooth sailing!
